The Dream
The bigger the better
Capitilism is important. It drives progress and innovation but the dark side of capitilism is greed, hatrid, poverty, homelessness and starvation. We live in a world which is not sustainable. Some live to die while others live to waste. We are not saying that capitilism must fall or that the wealthy should be stripped of their well-deserved wealth; we are merely saying that the problem is not scarcity but wastage.
The facts
We as a species waste 40% of the food that we create for our own consumption. It is estimated to be around 2.5 billion tonnes per annum.
The top 50 richest people make an estimated $15 billion a month in interest alone.
Parts of Earth are so densely populated that people literally live on top of each other while other parts have not a single person in sight.
An estimated 673 trillion gallons of water is wasted annually just by the top three wasteful countries while others have no water to drink or bathe in.
Some have rooms sitting with guest beds that get used once a year while others sleep in the cold, rain, snow and baking sun wishing they could only find some relief.
We live on a planet where we have been given everything we need. There is enough for everyone. We just need to reduce our wastage and share what we don't need.
We at Open Earth Labs wish to imagine a different world. We wish to imagine a better world where the wealthy keep their wealth but where the common person has the ability to live comfortably, having all their needs met.
The dream
We wish to imagine...
Imagine a world where no one has to fight to survive but can rather fight to contribute, solve problems and innovate.
Imagine a world where housing is available for all and vacations are not something you battle to save for but rather have access to.
Imagine a world where the food you buy, the products you consume and the services you pay for are at cost. A world where mark-up isn't needed but instead we each contribute our talents to help each other.
Imagine a world where if you are unable to afford food and housing or battle to find work then you are able to volunteer on a farm, game farm, fishing ship, gold mine or hairdresser salon and have all your needs met just by providing your time and care.
Imagine a world where living meant you could spend your day doing something meaningful and enjoyable.
Imagine a world where people are no longer slaves to debt.
Imagine a world with open source housing, open source food, open source water, open source farming, open source vacations, open source schooling.
Imagine how rewarding it would be to be a community member.
